LOCATION, EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES
When, Where & What
We bring iCook culinary adventures to a school. We don’t require access to the kitchen or any special equipment, only the sink. We provide the following equipment for our class:
Oster® Large Capacity Convection Toaster Oven
Ninja® Master Prep Blender
Individual colorful cutting boards, aprons and plastic lettuce knives
Measuring cups, measuring spoons, mixing bowls, etc.
REGISTRATION, DURATION & AGE
We Take Care of Everything
We handle the registration and the roster online, and collect all of the necessary information to run a class smoothly, including allergy information.
Our program works best for K-4th grade students.
The duration of our program is anywhere from 10-14 weeks, but we can adjust to as little as 8 weeks. At the majority of schools, we offer three semesters per school year; curriculum and recipes are different for each semester.
A Nut-Free Environment
We do our best to provide good quality and healthy foods for all of our students. In our recipes we use mostly natural and minimally processed ingredients. We keep things food-safe: we are a nut-free and raw egg-free establishment, and can accommodate most food allergies.
When registering your child, please include all important allergy information or contact us personally to discuss the process and we will do our best to accommodate your child's needs.
Certified & Confident
Our culinary instructors come from different backgrounds and have experience working with children. Many of them are registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs)—so you can be sure that “health” is an important ingredient in each recipe. We believe that hiring qualified individuals contributes to our overall success and students’ safely.
Background checks serve as an important part of the selection process; we hire teachers who passed the background check, the Illinois Sex Offender Registry, and the Violent Offender Against Youth Registry. Teachers who will be working at Catholic schools are required to complete VIRTUS training through the Archdiocese of Chicago.
COMMUNICATION WITH PARENTS
Keeping them in the Loop
Today’s parents have the added challenge of a social environment that encourages fast food and the idea that cooking from scratch is too time-consuming. We believe that cooking together as a family can be a fun and bonding experience. In order to encourage this, we share the recipes we made in class with parents via email on a weekly basis.
