National Watermelon Day

Today is the day!!!! Let's celebrate watermelons together on this great summer day! Watermelons are such a great fruit to enjoy, especially during the summertime! This refreshing fruit is a great source of hydration for it contains up to 92% water and is also a great source of Vitamin C, Vitamin A and a decent source of Potassium as well. Watermelons also contain a powerful antioxidant called lycopene.


Here are some fun facts about watermelon!

  1. A watermelon takes about 90 days to grow, from planting to harvesting

  2. There are about 1200 varieties of watermelon available

  3. The word “watermelon” first appeared in the english dictionary in 1615

  4. According to Guinness World Records, the world's heaviest watermelon was grown by Chris Kent of Sevierville, Tennessee in 2013, weighing in at 350.5 lbs.

There are many different ways you can enjoy watermelon such as in a juice or smoothie form, as a popsicle, grilled, in a salad, and so much more! So how will you enjoy this delicious fruit? Happy cooking!
