Cinco de Mayo or the 5th of May is a day of celebration in Mexico, it is a day to commemorate the Mexican victory at the Battle of Puebla over the French Army. Although it is sometimes mistaken as Mexican Independence Day, it is an important day to celebrate Mexican food, culture and history. Mexico’s actual Independence Day is celebrated on September 16th, and commemorates Mexico’s Independence from Spain.
Cinco de Mayo is a memorable day in Mexico because it represents an unexpected victory in Mexico’s fight against a bigger and stronger army. It is celebrated with parades, music, and of course… food!
